General Information:

Horses can on average live to between 25 and 33 years old although many live well beyond this.  Ponies tend to live longer.

Although ponies and horses come in a huge range of natural colours the most popular colours are:

Bay - where the main body colour ranges from light reddish-brown to very dark brown and the "points" are black

Chestnut - a reddish body colour and no black

Grey - the horse has black skin but the hairs are white or dark and white mixed

Then there are three types of Grey:

Dapple - a grey with lighter rings of grey hairs

Fleabitten - a white horse with dark grey spots

Rose - a grey with reddish or pinkish tinge to its coat

The rarest colour for a horse is White.  White horses tend to have unpigmented skin (pink), white hairs and either blue or brown eyes.  Their hair colour will not change.
